Adjusting to Seasonal Changes
As the early morning light crossed the horizon, I stepped outside to check the weather; I was greeted by a wonderful cool crisp morning. It was quite the contrast from the warm humid mornings of the summer. One of the main indicators of the change of seasons is the sudden drop in temperature at night. This change in temperature brings changes in our physical body as well. One of the first signs is the resulting tickle or drainage in your throat. As this drainage becomes more pronounced, it can lead to cold-like symptoms. The drainage may leak into the ear canal overnight, causing the ears to become plugged. Or, if it drips into the lung area you wake up with a cough and it feels like it is stuck in the lungs.
Because the temperature changes affect the function of the hypothalamus gland, you may also find Your hunger increases, and you can’t seem to satisfy it. Burdock supports the function of the hypothalamus gland which regulates temperature changes in the body, hunger, thirst and the function of the hormonal system.
Burdock is a wonderful herb to take during seasonal changes. Burdock helps to minimize the reaction to the temperature changes; and stops the over-secretion of mucus in the lungs and sinus. As soon as the weather cools down like this, I begin taking two burdock root capsules every evening, it works great to prevent these symptoms. I might add another 2 capsules in the morning if the weather is particularity cold. Once the body adjust to the cooler weather, you may not need it every day.
Sometimes the cold weather sneaks up on you and you don’t dress for it. Like the other morning when I went for walk and didn’t realize that the wind was so sharp and cold, by the time I got home my nose was running and my eyes watered. In a situation like this, CC-A comes to the rescue. I pulled out my CC-A and took several capsules with a couple burdock, my sinus cleared up and I felt fine the rest of the day. CC-A was originally formulated to help your body fight a common cold. It is very good for conditions with runny eyes and nose, coughs or other respiratory complaints. I know someone who takes it during hay fever season instead of typical allergy formulas. CC-A helps with reduce swelling in the respiratory tract, relieves muscle aches, headache, chills and fever, and helps to fight infection. Taken at the first signs of a common cold, it can often minimize the virus to just a few days. It comes in liquid form, making it is a good choice for children.
Burdock and CC-A are great formulas for your fall medicine chest.
