Nourish your Health with Gratitude
Holding gratitude is one of the ways we nurture a soul guided life. I remember taking a walk a couple of years ago with my 89-year-old mother-in-law, Helen Greguire. We talked and reflected on how 12 years ago, Helen desired to lose 60 lbs. She joined Weight Watchers and started walking. At first, she could only walk a short distance before getting fatigued and out of breath. She would mark her progress each day by which fence post or mailbox she would walk to, gradually building up longer distances. After watching her diet and walking twice a day, her excess weight melted off her.
At the age of eighty-nine she continued to walk four miles a day. What motivates her to continue to walk? As we walked along, I learned one of her secrets – gratitude. As the sun began to illuminate our walk we would stop and notice the beauty of God’s creation. Stopping to admire a beautiful flower, or to feel the cool morning breeze upon our skin. And the highlight of our morning walk, the beautiful sunrise as it came up over the lake, it was amazing.
As we walked back home Helen said to me “I don’t understand why more people don’t take walks. There are so many beautiful things to see and enjoy which God has created for us.”
Holding gratitude is a key to nurturing a soul guided life. Take time each day to quiet your mind and drop into your heart. Connect with God, your spirit, and the Universe. And may you take time to notice the blessings and the gifts which are all around you.
Blessings, Valerie
