The Soul Adorned: Hats of Expression

I stood in the closet, gazing at the many hats resting on the shelves—

some dusty, long forgotten,

others vibrant and full of life, eager to adorn my head.

Each one a story, a character waiting to be worn,

identities longing to be embraced, yearning to come alive.

There is a secret within these hats-

they wish to embody themselves through you.

Without you, they remain empty,

mere fabric and form, lifeless and still.

But who are you?

Are you the statue that awakens

the moment a hat is placed upon your head?

Or are you the storyteller,

the architect of your becoming,

while the hat is but a prop -

that brings your tale to life?

So many hats fill your closet—do you wear only one?

Clutching it so tightly that you dare not let it go?

And what if the wind steals it from your head,

sweeping it away with the force of change?

Who then stands on the road, bare and unadorned?

Who are you without it?

Each morning, we open the closet to a world of choices,

like a coat of many colors, stitched with love and memory.

Our hats are not who we are, but the expressions of our ever-unfolding soul,

tools for creation, props in the grand play of life.

So, my friend, do not cling too tightly to any one hat,

lest it entraps you rather than setting you free.

Yes, they serve their purpose—some delightfully beautiful,

some comically absurd ,and that is as it should be.

But like the cap tossed joyfully at a graduate’s farewell,

each hat, in its time, must be released—a symbol of endings and new beginnings.

Cherish the hats you have worn,

and may you have the wisdom

to place one gently back on the shelf

when it no longer serves your soul’s journey.

Honor each one with gratitude,

for they have shaped you, taught you,

and carried you through seasons of becoming.

But remember—you are not the hat.

You are the light that wears it.

So wear them, dance in them,

play in them, or be ridiculously serious in them.

Most of all, enjoy them.

For you are a radiant expression of love itself,

pure energy bringing form to life,

a writer of stories, a weaver of dreams.

Embrace your light, celebrate your hats.

And enjoy the wondrous journey that is yours to create

Blessings, Valerie
